“DISCOVERY 780DMW ” model nc drilling and milling machine.

Technical description

• The DISCOVERY 780DMW opposite head drilling machine has been conceived as two drilling machines paired together, to be used separately in case of sheets having width dimensions inferior to the middle effective width, or on the contrary paired as single machine. It is made up of a solid electrically welded steel base, on which four independents heads are running, the two upper heads are used for drilling, edging and milling, the two inferior one are used only for drilling and edging.
• From a mechanical and electronic point of view, each machine is composed by eight axes controlled in terms of position and speed
• Alongside each drilling head there are a pair of tool stores, each with a capacity of 16 positions. These are revolving stores controlled electronically in terms of position which. Both stores are physically protected from the working area by mobile pneumatic safety guards. Each tools store is equipped with a system for the automatic reading of the drill bit length; this systems allows the automatic updating of the tool length, whether by control on the panel or by scheduled planning. On both machines' sides two dressing positionings for drill bit are available, the operation can be performed whether by direct command from the operative panel, or by scheduled planning
• Spindles are fastened on each drilling head; special is the upper spindle, which carries out the milling operation and is enabled for rotating at up to 10,000 rpm, on the contrary the lower spindle has a limit of 6,000 rpm.
• The cooling water of tools runs inside the same spindles. The upper spindle is also equipped with external cooling system specific for milling phase
• The drilling / milling cycle is managed entirely by the numeric control on the basis of the set CAD CAM program.
• The drilling machine's running is managed by a last generation numerical control that is constantly in communication with two Personal Computers, one for each machine side. The operator interface includes a liquid crystal screen and a keyboard for entering operating data.
• On machine board the two Personal Computers are equipped with:
  • The operator interface software, CAD-CAM software for processing the working programs.
  • Both programs have been created by Bottero S.p.A. in Windows® environment.
  • The control panel, which houses the liquid crystal screen, the keyboard, the various buttons and the warning lamps, has been positioned in an ergonomically convenient area for the operator, who can check the running of the drilling machine both on the screen and directly on the machine.
• The machine has an automatic lubrication system a central control unit managed by the personal computer. All the runners, linear way carriages and recirculating ball screws are lubricated at programmed intervals.
